My dad brought it home for me one time when he'd been on a trip. I have a feeling he brought it back from the eastern states (perhaps he'd been to Queensland, they grow most of the sugar there) but now I'm thinking about it, I wonder how he would have been able to bring it into Western Australia with our quarantine the way it is... in any case, he gave me this greenish looking stick to chew on, and I thought he had lost it!! You can grow it here, where I live now in Perth, as long as you protect it during the winter.
I find I only really miss meat when I'm pregnant! Especially bacon... omg. I could eat it all the time at the moment! When I decided to stop eating it, it was due more to money :D I was a student on a very low income and realised I could afford more food if I wasn't buying meat.
I agree - having children changes how you act in many ways!
