I really enjoyed reading this. I think with regards to feeling sorry for the rabbit... you tend to be a lot more pragmatic when there's limited food options. We have the luxury to be squeamish in our respective countries. I used to watch my dad butcher sheep when I was younger - sounds horrible and disgusting, right? But I was just curious, and I knew the sheep didn't suffer at all, and he would point out what everything was... it was interesting. As a result I'm not at all squeamish when it comes to blood or anything :) but I still couldn't kill something for food myself! (And I'm also mostly vegetarian, except right now when I find I want the extra protein).

Sorry, long comment! It was great to read about your experiences. Also, I tried sugar cane once when I was about the same age as you were, and you're right: nothing compares!!
